On the morning of Saturday, January 7, in the Oil Cultural Center Hall, the Together for a Better Life Foundation participated in the press conference to launch the National Network Initiative (Coalition of Human Rights Defenders and Activists in Iraq).
This initiative aligns with human rights organisations’ efforts to unify ranks and achieve common goals in the interest of improving the human rights situation in Iraq.
In the same context, the formation of (the national team concerned with writing international and local human rights reports) was announced during the conference, whose first task will be to write the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report during the coming period shortly, in addition to responding to and writing all reports related to contractual and non-contractual international human rights mechanisms.
It will also launch a campaign (Defend the Defender), which will be adopted by member organisations to push for the writing of a draft and legislation of a law to protect human rights defenders.
Notably, the network includes many human rights organisations and institutions from all Iraqi governorates, in addition to many actors and activists in the field of human rights. The conference was attended by a representative of the Non-Governmental Organizations Registration Department and the High Commission for Human Rights, indicating its blessing for this initiative, its direct support, and its willingness to cooperate and invest in experience.
